Natural medicines plants and the shamans of the Amazon rainforest part 2

Howard G Charing and Peter Cloudsley join the Amazonian shamans, Javier Arevalo and Artidoro in discussions on the drugs and spirit of medicinal plants and their use.

Rosa Sisa

It is a kind of calendula, and they are used in baths especially for children with "evil area." This disease occurs when a family member dies and leaves the unfortunate child and sleepless nights. The spirit of the dead grandfather - or whoever it was, drags and makes the sick child. Mind is sad go and rest at home after the person is buried and attempt to caress and comfort of people in the family. That makes them ill.
Rosa Sisa also controls vomiting in General, as well as in floral baths for good luck.

Generally an envious neighbor will be catching a handful of land of the cemetery and throw in your House to spread trouble and heavy feelings.
Yet again, when something is wrong in the House - people are bored or restless - you get a bucket of water and add flowers of Rosa Sisa crushed and Camalonga and wash the floors of the House with a brush to clean it.

Alternatively you can have flowers in a vase in the House for the same purpose. Many people them grows on each side of the door of their House to absorb the negativity of people who looks in enviously to see what assets they have. The flowers are black, but later they retrieve themselves.
Concerns may also be used to make vows, blowing with the wish in mind - as we do with a dandelion - because it is yellow, the colour of the Sun.

Manchare or susto (fright) are diseases commonly suffered by children and treated with Camalonga - a tree which grows wild in the forest, but many people grow it in pots of flowers in the city. It smells like garlic and onions can be macerated in alcohol to be rubbed on the person. In cases requiring a soul recovery would be a prayer or singing at the same time.

Usually a child gets Manchare reading in the trees and jumping to the ground and receive a bump much greater that they expect. In this case the Rosa Sisa is linked to a bouquet with a Ribbon white and brushed on the body of the head down. This is because the spirit returns through the Crown of the head. A small prayer is said to invoke the new spirit, using the name of the child.
It can be used in the emplasts for fever too.

Huairacaspi

It comes in two varieties, a high tree with a thick trunk and small tree slim with few leaves. It is the same tree as tornillo is good wood. The direction can be folded double without breaking and it is good to do yoga and flexibility in General.

It's good for the others, chronic diarrhea, hepatitis, arthritis, fractures and cold in the body. As a teacher plant, it is good to disorientation and the feeling of being lost.
After drinking, you need to take a shower, as it makes you sweat on all toxins.

Ushcaquiro

This plant is very little known and used. As chuchahuasi, discharge of mothers take care of their baby, vaginal cancer, cold, it is good after operations. It is prepared in water or alcohol. Painkiller.

New plants for the landscape

How many new factories have you added to your garden this year... i.e. plants that you have never grown before? Have you ever given yourself the thrill of the password through the pages or of one of the seed catalogues online and to order a package of this and a package that you have never tried? It "s incredible how many adventure you will find in the spending of a dollar or two." There is still time for sowing the seeds of many annual plants and see them flourish this year.

In one of the seed catalogues that I note lovely annual fragrant flowers that can be used as a House of plants... exacum. Another is the first blooming season - Rudbeckia, similar to the gloriosa daisy Biennale. Others are another red, Chinese forget-me-not, trumpet (Datura) annual flower Gaillarde, English daisy. It's a few annual plants, most of them in the catalogs since 50 years or more, but you can enjoy them if you have never tried them.

There is still time to sow flowers hardy, such as Salvia, Asclepias, Rudbeckia, Hesperis, snow Queen and chrysantha.

A watering system

Have you considered running a few permanent lines of pipe plastic three-quarters of an inch of the House out to the corners of the garden? A line to the bottom of each side running with taps spaced 40 to 50 feet should allow you to your place together with a length of 50 feet from the water pipe. It is important, unless you have pressure higher than the average of the water, to use three-fourths of an inch pipe for tracks that are more than 50 to 75 feet. Although the plastic pipe is supposed to be non-fractionnement when it freezes, is always well to exhaustible in low spots.

Plants with flowers in early spring, as the primrose, the leopardbane, the flowers pink azalea and others can be divided and replanted as soon as they are flowering. To help overcome the ethnic divide and transplantation, always cut about half of the foliage. It is always a complete fertilizer with soil mix. If it is hot and dry, the shades for the first week.

There is still time to plant deciduous trees with Evergreen if they will respect your climate. Because many are grown in containers or delivered and burlapped, they can be moved much later than bare root plants. Thinking towards the zero about weather, how we did enjoy Evergreen hardwood trees that were around our garden... rhododendron, pieris, boxwood, the different form of creeper of winter leaves persistent (Euonymus), firethorn (Pyracantha), Holly of America and the last, but be less respectful yucca but lovely. It seems too bad that some people are just a little snob, so that they can help to grow this yucca outmoded.

Nolina - a most special plant for a dry climate garden

Is there an ornamental plant which makes it a most beautiful sculptural silhouette and the more unusual, requires practically no care and attention and is extremely modest in its water needs? The answer is Yes! This is the Palm of the bottle, Nolina recurvata.

Nolina, due to its thick trunk and counter leaves long, grassy, makes a very strong vertical emphasis, in the garden, amounting to a few metres of 3-4 and after very many years more. Its particularity is the inflated base from which rises the trunk. On mature plants, this can be up to one metre in diameter and resembles something like a giant onion.

Requiring little water, the Palm of the bottle is ideally designs landscape dry. It can be planted in a bed of decorative stones, for example, or in a wood chip mulch and marries well with other solid form as Dracaena and Yucca plants. In fact it could serve as a focal point, or the dominant element in a composition based on the ornamental grasses and plants like grass. For example, it seems large floating of a low growing carpet "weeds" as Festuca, Carex and Liriope.

Nolina must be used wisely. It will step in my view with large leaved plants and of course tropical, but associates well enough with fins Trues. It is sometimes grown as a vertical focus in a carpet of flowers. Personally, I think that this creates some confusion, as the colour of the flowers and strong lines of the Nolina attention. Good design involves the exact relationship between a dominant factor, be it a sculptural plant or a mass of colour and a factor of support as a green hedge or cover.

Nolina recurvata must be on the more easy to grow plant. It is also close to being free maintenance as possible. Nevertheless, it has its cultural requirements, which must be carefully noted.

* The most crucial is the need for excellent drainage. It is preferable to underwater Nolina to the alternate it. For this reason, that it should not be planted close to plants that require frequent watering, as annual flowers. In such cases, the bulb is liable to rot.

* Nolina requires full sun, but can get by in the light shade

* Do not forget that this plant grows very slowly. As he needs room to grow, it should not be crowded out with competing species. As always, patience is a virtue!
